Adaptive Spaces. Made to adapt.

The way we live and work is constantly changing. And as it changes, so do the demands placed on our spaces. Through ‘Transforming Spaces’, Hettich is working with its partners to develop solutions for adaptable spaces that evolve in line with people’s needs and open up new possibilities for their use.

At ORGATEC 2026, we will be showcasing our theme ‘Adaptive Spaces. Made to adapt" modular, space-defining solutions that allow floor plans and spatial zones to be adapted to changing uses. For offices, education, existing housing and compact floor plans.

Adaptive Spaces

Spaces that adapt to your needs

Nowadays, rooms have to do more than ever before. They are used for a variety of tasks, change their function and must respond flexibly to new requirements.

With Adaptive Spaces, Hettich demonstrates how intelligent furniture technology, defined movement sequences and planning support come together to create spatial solutions that enable change and generate long-term added value.

In practical terms, this means that a room can serve as a quiet retreat today, facilitate a meeting tomorrow, and become a storage space or study area the day after tomorrow, without the need to buy new furniture.

Adaptive space solutions

Solutions for the workplaces and built environments of tomorrow

At our exhibition stand, you can experience adaptive space solutions from the perspectives of architecture, interior design and modern workplace design. The focus is on concepts that rethink use, movement and flexibility.

Multi-purpose use in compact layouts Adaptive Living
Living rooms are becoming scarcer and more expensive. Adaptable solutions allow a room to be used for a variety of purposes, such as sleeping, working, living or accommodating guests. This creates greater utility on the same surface. This may be of particular financial interest to project developers and housing companies, especially in the case of micro-flats, urban flats, and subsidised and affordable housing.
Adaptation to different needs and living conditions Adaptive Buildings
Making existing spaces suitable for new requirements through transformation. Adaptive buildings are buildings that evolve alongside their users and their needs. Spaces are not designed for a non-movable purpose, but are designed in such a way that they can be adapted flexibly and repurposed time and again.
Spaces for different ways of working Adaptive Work
The space adapts to the work – not the other way round. The workplace adapts to the task, the user and the situation – from areas for focused work to spaces for discussion and collaboration. Height adjustment, movement, flexible configuration and smart integration are becoming key elements.
Acoustically effective, spatially structuring Adaptive Acoustic Zones
Open-plan surfaces must cater for a variety of needs: facilitating communication, encouraging concentration and providing a place to retreat to. Flexible partitioning systems, effective acoustic solutions and movable room zones are designed to create privacy and tranquillity – without permanently restricting openness and flexibility.
Furniture, light and space come together to form a dynamic system. Adaptive Interiors
Solutions that can be rotated, slid, folded or height adjustable make it possible to change functions flexibly and adapt spaces quickly to new uses. Light, too, becomes an active design feature. Not only does it provide light, but it also specifically alters the atmosphere and the perception of space, thereby supporting a variety of usage scenarios.
