'Tone on tone' remains a defining feature
A key design feature of many of the new products was the consistent tone-on-tone look. Fronts, worktops and other interior design elements are colour-coordinated to create a calm and harmonious overall look.
This design conveys a sense of quality and elegance. At the same time, it enhances the homely feel of modern kitchens, which are becoming increasingly integrated into open-plan living spaces.

Curves create a cosier atmosphere
Alongside clean lines, there were plenty of organic shapes to be seen at the autumn trade fairs. Rounded edges, smooth transitions and curved furniture contours lend kitchens a welcoming feel.
The return of curved forms helps to downplay technical and functional elements visually. Instead, the emotional quality of the space takes centre stage.

Be more daring with colour
Whilst natural colour tones continue to play an important role, many manufacturers have shown greater boldness in their colour schemes. Warm earth tones, muted shades of green and blue, and more striking colour accents are expanding the design possibilities.
The kitchen is thus increasingly becoming an expression of personal lifestyle. Individuality and character are becoming ever more important.

Floor-to-ceiling cupboards and elegant display cabinets
A clear trend was also evident in the layout of the space: floor-to-ceiling cupboard solutions maximise storage space whilst creating a calm, cohesive architectural look.
These concepts are complemented by high-quality display cabinets that deliberately showcase selected areas. Lighting and transparent elements create striking contrasts between display areas and storage space.

Textured surfaces create a new tactile experience
Another trend concerns surfaces. Alongside matt finishes, textured materials and embossed fronts are gaining in popularity.
Embossed patterns and textured surfaces lend furniture greater depth and individuality. This not only enhances the appearance, but also makes the tactile experience an important design feature. These surfaces are increasingly complemented by high-quality metal accents in gold or copper, which lend an air of luxury and create specific design highlights.

Materials with character: gold and copper accents add a touch of splendour
Alongside the finishes, high-quality materials and metallic accents also came more into focus. Gold and copper tones, in particular, were used deliberately to lend furniture, display cabinets and open-plan kitchens a warm and elegant look.
Whether in the form of delicate frame profiles, handle details, display cabinet fittings or decorative elements, these metallic accents create deliberate highlights and add a touch of luxury to the predominantly understated tone-on-tone schemes. Particularly when combined with natural materials, textured surfaces and warm colour tones, they give rise to high-quality living spaces with a distinctive character.

More and more wood in a wide range of applications
Wood is shaping contemporary kitchen design more than ever before. It is no longer used solely for cabinet fronts: worktops, recesses, shelves, interior fittings and entire units all incorporate wood and wood-effect finishes. Different shades, grains and textures create varied combinations and bring a sense of natural warmth to the room. Particularly when combined with muted colours, metallic accents and modern finishes, wood helps to make the kitchen feel even more like a cosy living space.

Hettich solutions support the transition to a living space
The close link between design and function today was also evident in numerous applications featuring Hettich’s fitting solutions. Modern open-plan kitchens require flexible and multifunctional usage options. Hettich therefore regards its fitting technology as an integral part of holistic living spaces. The combination of movement, design, ease of use and function enables new concepts for space and usage.
FurnSpin swivel and tilt system: adapt furniture flexibly to different usage scenarios
The FurnSpin Rotating and Swivelling System It epitomises the evolution of modern living spaces: furniture can be left open to display its contents, closed to create a sense of tranquillity, and adapted flexibly to different usage scenarios. The innovative technology remains largely concealed and blends harmoniously into the furniture’s design.

WingLine L folding door system: Accessible storage space with minimal space requirements
Equally prominent at the Kitchen Mile was the WingLine L folding door system with its panoramic effect. Its smooth, effortless movement allows quick access to cupboard contents and demonstrates how modern fitting technology combines user-friendliness with design. Examples of its use could be seen at various kitchen manufacturers’ stands along the Kitchen Mile.

ExeoTech drawer system: combining function and design in the kitchen range
That, too, ExeoTech drawer system set the tone. With its slim 11-mm frame and clean design language, it underscores the trend towards minimalist yet high-quality furniture concepts. The system was awarded the ‘Red Dot Product Design 2026’ prize.

What the examples of modern kitchens show
The OWL 2026 Autumn Trade Fairs have impressively demonstrated that the kitchen is continuing to evolve into a versatile living space. Tone-on-tone schemes, curved lines, bolder colours, textured surfaces, gold and copper accents, as well as floor-to-ceiling cupboards and display cabinets, characterise the current design trends.
At the same time, demands for flexibility and functionality are on the rise. Comfort and the intelligent use of space are increasingly being considered together. The kitchen is evolving into a space where cooking, living, working and daily life blend seamlessly.
Innovative solutions such as FurnSpin, WingLine L and ExeoTech demonstrate how modern hardware technology supports this development and opens up new design possibilities. In doing so, they lay the foundations for versatile living spaces that meet the requirements of modern living concepts.
