Innovative system with development potential: Hettinject
Conserving wood as a raw material demands innovations that allow other materials to be processed in the same quality while reducing the share of wooden components used. Hettich was quick to realise the potential that is opened up by lightweight construction and created a sound basis for the Hettinject connecting technology by developing the Hettinjectglued dowel.
Lightweight boards provide unbeatable advantages over conventional panel materials. Using fewer raw materials ensures cost-efficiency despite the rising cost of raw materials and transportation. Valuable wood is still used on the outer layers of lightweight boards as an important quality feature of high-grade furniture.
Hardware solutions for every type of lightweight board
All Hettich product solutions for lightweight construction guarantee the same high level of fixing quality and process reliability. Hettinject connecting technology provides the best possible connection for any type of lightweight board. The Hettinject glued dowel ensures maximum strength and stability even in boards with thin outer layers because it transports the glue to the upper and lower face layers through flow channels. The supporting framework structure this produces is capable of absorbing both tensile and compressive forces. The glued dowel can be positioned wherever it is required and used with standard fittings.
New materials are opening up a wealth of options in design. In addition to creating large sliding doors, fittings glued into the end face provide advantages both in terms of design and structural strength.
The Hettinject VB insert is predestined for constructing high-quality furniture as well as creating designs without back panels. Using this solution, shelves and tables of impressive size and strength are easily produced from frameless lightweight boards. As the fitting completely disappears in the lightweight board, it satisfies the demand of many furniture manufacturers for invisible fittings. Mounted in a hole drilled into the end face, production tolerances are automatically compensated for while providing optimum eccentric cam latching. The tried and proven Twister dowel is inserted laterally, ensuring that components stay in position. Assembly is simplified to the extent that there is no need for the customer to fit any projecting or loose components. This also avoids errors being made.
The Hettinject Titan shelf support makes it possible to construct shelves from frameless lightweight boards. The fitting is set and glued into the rear end face of the shelf.
Platform for industrial processing
While the connecting fittings were being developed for lightweight boards, progress was made in advancing the technology for mounting them. The first prototype of a fully automatic processing machine was put into operation three years ago in the Lightweight Construction Technical Centre at the company's Kirchlengern headquarters. The experience gathered from this has helped well-known machine manufacturers to make further advances.
In addition to a plug-on unit for CNC machining centres that installs dowels from a magazine, solutions for entire finished-component lines with vertical and horizontal gluing facilities are available today as well. The interface and type of processing always stays the same. This provides a sound basis for the industrial application of Hettinject connecting technology.
