Good advice from Poland: Do not stay at home. Get an overseas training

Computer science-student for a 2 month long training at Hettich in Kirchlengern

Aldona Maka, student at the Silesian Technical University in Gleiwitz

My name is Aldona Maka. I come from Poland and study computer science at the Silesian Technical University in Gleiwitz. In 2007 I completed a 2 month long training at Hettich in Kirchlengern. This training was sponsored by the trainee-exchange organization IAESTE (www.iaeste.org).

The main subject of training was to design a web-application for order management. This was the second web application that I have designed. My first application used the Pearl programming language. This helped me a lot in learning about several things, like for instance, a production flow. I have to state at this point, that the high standard of technology left me impressed. In addition, it was useful to see all the installations in reality, for e.g. the data-warehouse-system. I am especially interested in this technical field.

Overall, I will not only remember the time I spent in gaining knowledge, but will also have memories of the enjoyable working atmosphere. For this, I am thankful to all the people, with whom
I became acquainted there. Foremost, I thank my supervisor, Mr. Detlev Welter. He was very helpful, immensely patient and understanding!

This kind of training not only improves work-related aptitude, but also offers a chance to meet new people and learn about their culture. This happened in my case also. The supervisors at AISEC/IAESTE, Bielefeld, were very helpful and we were able to spend the entire period of training in a friendly and integrative manner. This has turned the duration of my stay in Germany into one of the best phases of my life. I wish I could have stayed longer, but, I could not possibly delay the last year of my studies at the University.

I would advise foreign students, that they should not have any bias. They should definitely come here and form their own opinion. Each person is different. German students, who want to
know more people, new cultures and improve their foreign language skills should apply for a trainee exchange program of the IAESTE organization. Please visit the web-site www.iaste.de or
the nearest IAESTE-office. Do not stay at home! Get an overseas training!
