Hettich workers play Haptus, the enterprise planning game

Caught playing: A Hettich-Staff from the Product Management HHE

Business administration is much more than dry facts and figures – as some Hettich staff found out during a seminar run by Dr. Otto Bott. For three days, they took on the role of CEO in the economic strategy game Haptus. The game provides efficient and enjoyable management training for engineers, technicians, specialists, managers, management candidates and trainees without business administration backgrounds.

Haptus is a board game that helps people learn business administration basics – not to mention the issues, the relationships and the terminology. Haptus simulates the complex diversity of tasks and challenges typical of an international manufacturing company with a range of different products. It can happen that players, who thought they were doing really well, find themselves confronting financial challenges that need complicated calculations and wellplanned strategies. The seminar ended with a ‘press conference’ where the teams answered critical questions from the other contenders. The game was fun for everybody – crucial for ensuring high motivation and a sustained learning effect. The positive feedback from the first test candidates means that we’ll offer the seminar again in the third quarter of 2008.
