The business game Unternehmens-Planspiel NRW, yearly organized by the Bildungswerk NRW, is being supervised by the University Siegen. Already in the qualification round the trainees of Hettich FurnTech proved their strengths. Out of eight participants in their category, they were the best team. Overall 100 companies participated in the business game. The teams had to put themselves in the position of a company producing cooling units. The participants had to do all the important business decisions: purchase of machines, determination of production volume, investment into quality and marketing as well as rate fixing. The virtual company succeeded in making profit and took its team Hettich FurnTech to the finals which took place in Wiehl.
There our team had to compete in another game against the winners of the other categories. Many of the rivals were experts with great experience. As a company operating at a loss, the teams had to undergo six business periods within two days. Decisions concerning investments, turnover and financing had to be done quickly and well considered. The virtual market was tough; it wasn’t easy to gain market shares. The increase of row materials and tough negotiations made the market conditions even more difficult. Only three teams were able to write black figures. The team Hettich FurnTech made it into the top 10! The Hettich trainees comment: It was a lot of fun and we will profit from our experiences in the next finals.
