| In 2007, the International Design Award took place for the sixth time. This worldwide student competition achieves with its high quality an entry in the “Guiness Book of Records”. This year’s competition had 1,330 entries from 38 countries and topped the record of 1,153 entries from 24 countries which was set in 2005. This year, the most represented countries were Germany, Japan and China, which were followed by Poland, India, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Finland, UK and Canada. The designs submitted by universities and colleges will be compared and assessed by an international jury in March 2007. The awards ceremony will take place in Cologne during the Interzum (9th to 12th May 2007). The prize money is € 20,000. The competition, taking place every two years and organized by Hettich, for the first time was jointly organized by Hettich and Rehau AG + Co. This collaboration leads to higher engagement than ever and should result in extended orientation and higher standards.
The students of universities and colleges could submit a design in one of two categories - furniture and fittings. In the furniture category the main focus was put on future lifestyle. In the fittings category, the students were challenged to integrate in their designs technical functionality with aesthetics of drawers, roller fronts, edge bands or handles.
The new record of entries shows that the sixth International Design Award will make this competition even more popular.
Professors from universities and colleges with faculties of furniture design/construction from all over the world are invited to submit their students` designs and compete on a high international level. The number of entries is limited to a maximum of five per professor and category.
